Time to embrace the gloss

Marc Jacobs Beauty Enamored with a Twist - 3-piece Hi-Shine Lip Gloss Collection, RM260 at Sephora
When a little bird (a.k.a ELLE's beauty editor) told me that lip gloss is once again having a moment, I figured well, that's one trend I won't be hurrying to adopt. The combination of long hair and goopy gloss is not a great one. But I've also vowed that 2017 would be the year I seize any opportunity to step out of my comfort zone, so this was a good chance to do it.

No better gloss to start with than Marc Jacobs' collaboration with artist Julie Verhoeven, which includes a set of three Enamored Hi-Shine Gloss Lip Lacquer that delivers brilliant shine minus the sticky feeling that comes with traditional formulas. Verhoeven first collaborated with Jacobs for his Louis Vuitton Spring 2002 collection, and again for his eponymous SS17 collection – yes, the one worn with pastel dreadlocks – so it was only a matter of time before the fashion illustrator, known for her vivid use of colour, would play a role in his beauty line. Most beauty collaborations have unique product packaging, but I love that this collection comes with a limited-edition makeup bag with Verhoeven's quirky, psychedelic artwork so I don't feel too bad about spending extra cash on it.

The glosses themselves are fabulous for layering over matte lipsticks or embraced on their own, paired only with clean skin and a touch of peachy blush. It comes in the shade French Tickler, Pink Steam and an exclusive new beige-pink, Want Me? (yes, yes I do).

Also available as an eye set, Velvet Reality, with Velvet Noir Mascara, Twinkle Pop Stick Eyeshadow in On the Verge and Highliner in Th(ink), RM250.
