Matrix recently organised The Matrix Strobe Star Award 2016/2017, the haircare brand's inaugural professional hair show and competition.

L'Oréal Malaysia Professional Products Division general manager, Aaron Littlewood presented the Matrix Strobe Star Award 2016/2017 to Heah Chun Keat from Vito Hairdressing Salon, who beat out 300 other submissions with his creation, inspired by thunderclouds. He walked away with prizes worth RM60,000 at the event attended by celebrity guests such as Carey Ng, Thanuja Ananthan, Jack Lim, Datin Winnie Loo, Fyza Kadir, Tung Mei Chin, Datuk Kevin Tan, renowned designers Orson Liyu, and Ellie Norman.

People's Choice winners were selected through online voting, and the top prize went to Chia Koon Chau from Hair Secret Salon, followed by first runner up Sharon Chong Kai Eng from 9 Studio Salon & Academy and second runner up Yuji Loi from Dmines Hair Salon.

Set against the theme of Rock 'N' Strobe, the show was a celebration of the strobing trend through the eyes of Rock & Roll and Americana. Earlier in the evening, guests were treated to a showcase of skills, creativity and expression from four of Matrix's Artistic Educators: Alan Ng from Estilo Hair Nail Studio, Roy Thean from 115 Kimarie & Hannan, Dr Ken Lim from Wenawave Salon and Stephan Law from L Code Salon, who displayed creative interpretations of Punk Rock and Glam Rock.

Another highlight of the night: a live demonstration by Matrix Global Colourist Stevie English and Matrix Design Team cutting guru Kobi Bokhish, who both boast more than 20 years in hairdressing. Stevie, the hair director for The Voice Australia in 2016, joined avant-garde cutting expert Kobi to interpret the theme of Artistic Candy Rock with a playful, whimsical touch.
