WHY WE LOVE IT: I have long hair (the kind of long that reaches my waist). And in trying to maintain what I think is healthy hair, I went to the Phyto Hair Spa only to realise I'd been neglecting to care for the source of my lovely locks.

Phyto believes that in order to address hair issues, one must get to the root of the problem: the scalp. The brand has developed a three-pronged approach for their scalp and hair treatments, (rebalance, treat, beautify). But let's face it: our hair's needs change daily. That's why every Phyto treatment is a personalised service.

Before the treatment begins, a trained consultant gives me a detailed scalp analysis, which allows me to see (with the help of their scalp and hair analysis machine) what my hair needs — it wasn't the result I was expecting. This allows the consultant to then map out a customised treatment programme.

Though I don't use much product on my hair (nothing but serum), my irregular washes had left my scalp sensitised and slightly inflamed. I'm told that the first step to beautiful hair is a thorough cleanse with the Phytopolléine Botanical Scalp Treatment to rebalance my scalp by unclogging it of metabolic waste and toxins from the deep tissues, priming it for treatment. My consultant informs me that my scalp is quite clogged, so my hair is placed under the steamer to help clear the way before another round of massage ensues (not that I'm complaining, of course).

Any signs of inflammation are then calmed by the Phytoapaisant Soothing Treatment Shampoo and Soothing Spray. This part of the programme varies according to your hair's needs. Oily scalps will be treated with purifying ingredients while those with thinning hair will receive a dose of stimulating ingredients.

Finally, botanicals are applied to the scalp to maintain healthy hair. For me, it's the Phytojoba and 9 Nourishing Day Cream that give my hair voluminous life. A few drops of finishing serum for glossy shine and I'm ready to hair-flip out the door.
