Review: Nike Power Speed running tights
These tights will up your running game
Nike Power Speed running tights, RM529
Available at Nike stores in Pavilion KL, Mid Valley, The Gardens, The Curve and Sunway Pyramid
What it is
These tights are designed to enhance your running experience. The high-stretch, Dri-FIT fabric helps you stay dry and comfortable, while providing a compressive feel throughout. It also features a strategically placed, screen-printed pattern all around the hips, thighs and calves to help aid the linear motion of running and provide support to the muscles that are engaged.
Why I love it
Easy, these tights are a stunner; the compliments just keep rolling in every time I break them out for a run. I love the ultra-sporty look of the graphic lines inspired by the flow of a track and the way they enhance the shape of my legs. The online Nike store carries the tights in seven colourways, but they're available locally in black-and-white or black-and-electric orange options.
While I may have preferred a slightly higher waistband to help hold all my wobbly bits in place, I appreciated how the hidden drawcord at the waist gave me a truly personalised fit. I also love the ankle-cropped length of these tights as it allows me to show off my equally flashy Nike sneakers. But the kicker? The genius addition of a zipped pocket at the back, which gives wearers a place to store spare change and keys.
I road-tested these tights during a crossfit session and at a run at KLCC park. On both occasions, I noticed how lightweight these tights felt, and how comfortable and dry they stayed even as I was sweating buckets. The compression factor was just right. They definitely held my muscles in place without being too tight or constricting – a huge deal breaker for me as I prioritise mobility when it comes to crossfit sessions where I do box jumping and pistol-squatting.
At RM529 a pair, these tights may be a little pricier than most in the market right now, but taking into consideration how good they look and how well they perform, that's money I'm willing to part with.
What it's good for
Sprints, long distance running and looking good. Come on, let's be real here.
