Sprucing up your makeup from day to night isn't rocket science. The new MAC Cosmetics Magic of the Night collection, coming to you this holiday season, has a range of colours that allow you to transform your makeup look to suit the occasion.

Senior Artist Haritha Shan showed us how to go from daytime makeup to nighttime makeup easily, using products from the glamorous collection.

DAY LOOK

What you need
1. Colourdrenched Pigment eye shadow in Night Thrill (gold shimmer), RM94
2. Pearlglide Intense Eye Liner in Black Swan, RM85
3. Lipstick in Please Me (matte muted rosy-tinted pink), RM87
4. In Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Shaft of Gold (deep bronze) RM95

How to get the day look
1. Draw a thin line with the Pearlglide Intense Eye Liner on the lash line. Use a fluffy brush to smudge it upwards. The crayon-like texture of the eye liner lets you smudge it better.
2. Gently tap on a light-coloured Colourdrenched Pigment eye shadow at the inner corner of the eye.
3. Use your eyeliner to draw on the eye waterline as well.
4. Squeeze your cheeks and, using the In Extra Dimension Skinfinish and a brush, contour your cheekbones, following the apples of your cheeks. Use the tip of the brush, stroking up and down to blend.
5. Apply the lipstick straight from the bullet or use a lip brush for precise application.

NIGHT LOOK

What you need
1. Colourdrenched Pigment eye shadow in Moon Is Blue (royal blue), RM94
2. Lip Pencil in Nightmoth (blackened plum), RM81
3. Lipstick in Please Me (matte muted rosy-tinted pink), RM87
4. False Lashes Waterproof mascara, RM100 (not part of the collection)
5. 4 Lash false eyelashes, RM54 per pair (not part of the collection)

How to get the night look
1. Add a tiny bit of the dark blue Colourdrenched Pigment eye shadow to the lash line to darken the daytime eye makeup, making sure not to overdo the look.
2. Change the lip from a light colour to a dark colour. Using the Lip Pencil, draw along the outer line of your lips, defining the shape as you go. Use a lip brush and blend inwards, creating an almost ombre effect on your lips. Use the Lipstick to even out the colour if necessary.
3. Haritha's tip: Keep your lips matte so it's easier to work with the lip pencil.
4. Apply mascara (we used the False Lashes Waterproof mascara on false lashes) for added drama.

"When you think of the word magic and the word night, it's got to do with a lot of sparkle," Haritha told us. "This season, we're playing with a lot of blues, purples and teal or turquoise. And that's becoming a trend, where women are starting to have those as their favourite colours. That's going to attract a lot of love for the season. It's the season for you to enjoy – a little jazz music and a little magic. So you create the magic yourself with this collection."

The MAC Cosmetics Magic of the Night collection will launch at MAC Cosmetics KLCC on 28 October and online on 29 October before becoming available at other MAC boutiques in the country starting 1 November. Contact your nearest MAC boutique for more information.
